Chromotherapy

THE HISTORY OF CHROMOTHERAPY

Therapeutic and medicinal virtues have always been associated with colours. Light is an energy that human beings need. Activates hormone production and regulates sleep-wake rhythms.

It is similar to Phototherapy, or 'light therapy', which treats depressive disorders and anxiety, but also dermatological conditions such as vitiligo and psoriasis, thanks to exposure to lamps that emit UV-B rays.

It was already known and practiced by the ancient Egyptians. Even in the East, especially in China, India and Tibet it was and is practiced to rebalance the emotional disharmonies that affect common diseases. The masters of medicine then used pigments and colored powders to add them to medicinal substances to enhance their healing properties.

THE WHITE

La neve

Being a very cold, astringent color, it induces strong mental concentration, relaxes the nervous system, relieves anxiety, has a calming effect and is useful for treating cases of hyperemotivity, psoriasis, urticaria, eczema.

Symbol of tranquility and harmony, blue stands out for being a color capable of offering balance to emotions.

With its position in the chromatic scale, between violet and cyan, it is capable of giving sensitivity to the observer, who will feel more exposed to further external stimuli.

Blue is a color having the ability to regulate blood pressure and heart rate, thus managing to keep the body in a state of stillness, chasing away feelings of apprehension.

It is also decidedly indicated in environments dedicated to meditation, promoting emotional balance.

THE TURQUOISE

Regarding the turquoise color we are dealing with today there is no extensive specific literature, as even in chromotherapy it is often described together with blue, from which many of its properties obviously derive.

Cold color, yin, like blue it is related to the fifth chakra, the throat chakra. It consists of blue and green, therefore it combines the purifying action of green with the relaxing and refreshing action of blue. Turquoise is the color of the unconscious, of the abyss, some call it an Atlantean color. It is directly connected to communication, creativity, the concept of "inner teacher" and also to feeling. The dolphin then symbolizes the turquoise because it expresses the freedom, the playfulness in the ocean, the place where we came from. The turquoise color helps those who are afraid to relate, to speak in public, to express their feelings. Turquoise is also calming, it stimulates interest, releases tension, makes you tolerant, generous and younger and fresher.

The Personality of the Turquoise Subject

Calm and confident, communicative, wavering, poised, aware, skilful and optimistic but with a tendency towards immaturity and infantilism.

When the turquoise color is recommended

Wear turquoise, surround yourself with stones, or choose environments with turquoise-colored objects in all of the following cases:

• During purifying therapies.

• Inflammation and the immune system to be strengthened.

• Agitation: calming action, releases tension.

• Post-febrile states: the turquoise color performs both the purifying action of green and the relaxing action of blue. In the treatment of post-febrile illnesses turquoise can be used when the temperature is at normal levels.

• Mental hyperactivity.

• Intolerance to people and situations: makes tolerant, lighter, young and fresh.

• Burns: the turquoise color is one of the fundamental constituents of the skin and for this reason it is indicated to alleviate states of suffering from burns. Stimulates the regeneration of epidermal cells.

• Shyness and insecurity: in these cases it is useful, for example, to wear it.

• Endocrine system issues.

THE RED

The first color of the rainbow. Associated with fire, it represents the energy par excellence, in fact, it is the color of life but only if we assume that the concept of life has the concept of death implicit in it, because it recalls what flows through the veins. It's exciting and lively, it's the color of eros and the deepest affection.

Red, together with black, is associated with the first chakra: Muladhara. This is the chakra located at the base of the spine, in the perineum area, between the genitals and anus. The organs corresponding to this chakra are the feet, legs, knees, pelvis, spine, adrenal endocrine glands, reproductive system, bladder, large intestine, muscles, bony skeleton and central nervous. The sense corresponding to Muladhara is smell. In alchemy it represents man, the sun, sulfur and gold. For American Indians it means joy and fertility.

From a physical point of view it stimulates vital functions: it increases blood pressure, heart rate and breathing, stimulates adrenaline. From a psychological point of view it represents activity, extroversion, the right and masculine side. It is also the color of eros and of the deepest affectivity but also of erotic and sexual corporeity. In Holistic Chromotherapy it is used to treat colds, sore throats, chronic coughs and asthma. Very useful for treating partial and total paralysis. It is indicated in all those cases in which one feels tired, apathetic, hypothetical, unable to feel emotions, think, take part in social life.

Red makes you talkative, open, caring and passionate and is very suitable for treating depressive states. Red foods, such as tomatoes, strawberries, red radicchio, cherries, pomegranate, beets, watermelon and hot peppers, facilitate the elimination of metabolic waste as they activate the lymphatic system. But in the case of low-calorie regimes, it should be used sparingly at the table as it stimulates hunger!

THE GREEN

Green in chromotherapy plays a fundamental role, as green is harmony. It is the color of nature and of the balance between the forces in play. It is the color of the drive towards well-being, towards green fields, towards calm and refreshment. This is also given by the fact that green represents a neutral color with respect to the fulcrum of the solar spectrum, therefore it is the right color for balance. Green is therefore the color with which to paint calm and serenity.

This is perhaps the reason why Indian culture uses this color for the earth, associating it with the positive vibrations of our thoughts and our senses. Yes, because green does not heat or cool, it is neither acid nor alkaline.

Heal yourself with greenery

In chromotherapy, green is recommended for hyperactive people, for those who are constantly under pressure and for those who need to shed light on themselves, especially if we are talking about 'feelings'. Better yet it works with anxiety. This is why the convivial part of the house is painted green, the place where social relations with our fellow human beings meet.

But green can be eaten. To regain lost calm, it is good to eat green foods, obviously avoiding excess sugar in carbonated drinks, as they are exciting.

At the epidermal level, green is used against warts.

Other chromotherapy benefits of green can be found in case of breathing difficulties, heart problems, gastritis, intoxication, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, after-effects of surgery, eye fatigue, stress, bulimia, hyperexcitability, paranoia, nervousness.

Green seems to have no particular contraindications, except in cases of depression, when a 'livelier' colour, let's say, is preferable.

THE PINK

Pink is an emotional color, it influences feelings by converting them into gentle, soft and deep. It transmits affection, love and protection to us. It takes us away from loneliness and transforms us into sensitive people. As red reflects more the sexual side, pink associates with selfless and true love.

It is a symbol of youth and expresses a newborn love. The color pink is associated with the sign of Libra. The keywords of the color pink are: innocence, love, total surrender, helping others. Pink is a color derived from red but mitigated by the purity of white. Indicates romance, charm, beauty, sweetness, femininity, delicacy, refinement, calm, tenderness. The less intense shades of pink are not visible and indeed can be indifferent.

Those who love pink are intuitive, sophisticated, educated, risquiet, calm. Similar to those who prefer red but with more contained and controlled characteristics. Those who love pink tend to take care of people and are sensitive. Color of those who love solidarity or want to leverage sensitivity. the association between pink and feminine occurs only in relatively recent times.

The psychological choice of this color

It is a color that does not tolerate compromises. Pink has the distinction of being either hated or loved. Its meaning refers to the idea of perfection, the use of pink is linked to non-random choices, it is never a substitute for another colour. The typicality of pink, as a color that refers to the female sphere, is not enough to make it loved by all women, as the acceptance of pink in adulthood often depends on its presence or non-presence in childhood and adolescence.

Pink is the symbol of hope. It is therefore a positive color that instills a certain sense of security and optimism towards the future. A color that calms primitive instincts, attenuates feelings of anger and aggression, but also the sense of abandonment and the desire for revenge towards others. Contrary to red, which universally and not only in medicine is considered the color of energy, of sudden action, pink on the other hand conveys tranquility and the desire to think before acting.
